Hospitality and catering sector discover vegetables and fruit

The purchase of fresh vegetables and fruit by the catering sector increased by thirteen percent in comparison to last year. In restaurants in particular, the trend towards a higher share of vegetables and fruit on the plate continues. That is a positive development, because people are dining out in increasing numbers. In shops, consumers spent two percent more on vegetables and fruit. Per shop visit, they bought an equal amount of vegetables and fruit as in 2016, but the number of shop visits decreased, and therefore also the consumption figures at home. This was revealed by figures presented at the beginning of this year by GroentenFruit Huis. www.groentenfruithuis.nl
